Forces of Nature

Forces of Nature

Sunday, February 2 @4 PM
Jeanne Y. Curtis Hall at Assumption University
500 Salisbury Street, Worcester
Pre-concert talk @3:30 PM

Beethoven’s often neglected String Quintet limns the calm before the storm, lightning strikes, and the release of tension at storm’s end, restoring nature’s balance. Atmospheric, ethereal, and other-worldly, Crumb’s Vox Balaenae (Voice of the Whale) is a tour de force evocation of the majestic and mysterious denizen of the oceans. We end with a beginning: Haydn’s “Sunrise” Quartet, in which the rising sun bursts forth from a warm and subtle glow.
