French Connections
Always one of the most magnetic and cosmopolitan cultural capitals of the world, Paris in the early 20th century was also a cauldron of daring new musical ideas. Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring,” an early product of that slow boil, excited the world and drew far-flung, distinctive, musical voices and personalities to the city. As the heat of the exchange of musical ideas intensified, it forged a thoroughly new vocabulary for composers like Boulanger, Bridge, and Copland, whose works are featured here.
