This week, we’re talking to Franziska Huhn, our harp player! If you haven’t had a chance to hear her yet, Franziska will be playing with us in our next concert series this month. Now, where do we find some German gummy bears?

What instrument(s) do you play? Harp
How long have you played it/ them? Since I was 9 years old.
Where were you born? Berlin, Germany
Where do you live now? Somerville, MA
Who is your favorite composer? Why? Bach. His music is brilliant and goes straight to the soul.
Do you have a favorite piece to play? Why? Any music I am working on becomes my favorite piece as I am discovering all the special things about it.
Do you have any pre-performance rituals? What are they? Sleep enough the night before, so I can focus and maintain the energy.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you during a rehearsal or performance? Once I played in a church in winter where the heating broke that morning and the church neglected to let me know. It was brutally cold, so I had to call a friend that I knew was coming to the concert to bring some winterized underwear.
How did you decide that you wanted to be a musician? I saw the harp and said I would be a harpist.

What’s your favorite vacation spot? Home in Berlin
What are your hobbies besides music? Running, yoga and math
If you were stuck on a deserted island and you could only listen to one piece of music for the rest of your life, what would it be? Double violin concerto by Bach.
