From the passions of Argentina to the crags of New England, to youthful German Romanticism, this program is full of fire. First, Ginastera’s “Impresiones de la Puna,” paints the high plains of Argentina painted with an evocative brush featuring the flute both singing and dancing. Then New England composer, John Harbison, with a piano quintet that twists playfully and turns in anguish. Finally, Mendelssohn’s masterpiece, the Octet for strings, the greatest single achievement of a young composer in the history of music.
With guests Lilit Hartunian and Katherine Winterstein, violins
