In the Shadow of War

In 1918, the dark threat of war hung over the world. This café concert presents music that was created during this time of fear and uncertainty in an atmosphere that reflected turmoil and chaos. The mystical yet grand sonata of Ives, the driving but unsettled flute writing of Boulanger, and the gentle yet turbulent Impressionist masterpiece of Ravel, display the dynamism of a time of crisis.
